Folks, I sat down with a triple coffee and broke down what really moves the needle this week. The market is clearly split between AI euphoria and geopolitical panic. Let's get straight to what matters.
Fact: NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang publicly stated that Marvell Technology (MRVL) could be the next company to hit a $1 trillion valuation, citing its key role in AI data center connectivity. The stock surged.
Action: I'd Buy – Huang's seal of approval is one of the market's biggest catalysts. Marvell is the "pick and shovel" of the AI boom, but with less spotlight than NVIDIA. For those seeking sector exposure without paying NVDA's multiple, MRVL is a clear play.
Impacts: MRVL, NVDA, semiconductor sector (SMH), data centers.
Fact: Iran reportedly broke off negotiations with the US and is threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude jumped to ~$95 and WTI surged 5.5% in a single day.
Action: I'd Hold – If you're already positioned in PETR4 or XOM, hold tight. If you're not, don't jump in at the peak of panic. The risk of escalation is real, but Trump has signaled he might reopen dialogue. Volatility will continue.
Impacts: PETR4, Exxon (XOM), airlines (AZUL, GOL), maritime shipping sector.
Fact: Alphabet announced a massive offering of common and preferred stock to raise $80 billion, aimed at turbocharging its AI infrastructure. Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is eyeing it as an anchor investor.
Action: I'd Hold – The dilution is a short-term drag, but the signal that the company is moving aggressively and earning Buffett's respect is good for the long haul. I wouldn't sell, but I wouldn't rush to buy now either. I'm waiting for the dust to settle.
Impacts: GOOGL, BRK.B, Big Tech sector (QQQ), cloud companies (AMZN, MSFT).
Fact: The company raised its annual sales projection to $7.13 billion. The stock has rallied ~160% over 12 months, driven by CEO Hillary Super's turnaround plan.
Action: I'd Reduce – Yes, the turnaround is impressive, but 160% in a year is already more than priced in. The risk of profit-taking is huge. If you got in early, take some off the table. If you're on the sidelines, it's not worth the risk of buying at the top.
Impacts: VSCO, fashion retail sector (LULU, AEO), consumer discretionary (XRT).
Fact: Defense tech startup Mach Industries quadrupled its valuation to $1.8 billion after raising $300 million in Series C funding.
Action: I'd Buy – I'm not saying to buy a risky startup, but the sector as a whole. Global tension (see oil) is redirecting capital to defense. Companies like RTX, LMT, and Brazil's EMBR3 are good vehicles for this tailwind.
Impacts: RTX, LMT, EMBR3, defense ETFs (ITA).
Fact: Moderna received $50 million from the US government to develop an emergency vaccine against a new Ebola strain that has already killed dozens in Africa.
Action: I'd Hold – The news is positive and shows the government continues to bet on the mRNA platform, but the amount is small relative to the company's size. It's not a game-changer. If you already have MRNA in your portfolio, hold to see if more contracts come through.
Impacts: MRNA, biotech sector (XBI, IBB), vaccine companies (PFE).
