The Essentials – June 9, 2026

Folks, at today's coffee table the mood is heavy: the Middle East is on fire again, Asian markets are plummeting, and amidst it all, there are massive moves in tech and AI. I'll cut straight to what matters for setting up the week's strategy.

1. Iran Attacks Israel and Threatens the Strait of Hormuz

Summary: Iran launched missiles at Israel and drones over the Strait of Hormuz, with the US shooting down four of them; oil surged over 3%, and the risk of a global supply disruption is back at the forefront.

I Would Reduce – It's prudent to cut exposure to oil and risk assets now, but I would buy defensive positions in energy (PETR4) and gold.

  • Assets: PETR4 (Petrobras), GOLD, PRIO3, BBAS3 (defensive financial sector)

2. Taiwan Stock Market Plunges – Third Biggest Drop in History

Summary: Taiwan's index fell 1,568 points (3.5%) in a single day, losing nearly US$ 280 billion in market value, driven by global panic and profit-taking after a strong recent rally.

I Would Hold – But no rush to buy. A violent drop could create an opportunity, but I haven't seen the bottom yet.

  • Assets: TSMC (TSM), ASML (ASML), SMH (Semiconductor ETF), EWY (Korea ETF)

3. Nvidia Closes Korean Deals (SK Hynix, Naver, Doosan) for AI Data Centers

Summary: Nvidia (NVDA) announced partnerships with SK Hynix, Naver, and Doosan to build AI data centers in South Korea, strengthening the HBM memory supply chain and cloud infrastructure.

I Would Buy – A clear sign of insatiable demand for AI chips. Use corrections to build a position.

  • Assets: NVDA, SK Hynix (000660:KS), SMH, AMAT (Applied Materials)

4. Google Finalizes Billion-Dollar Deal with SpaceX for AI Computing Capacity

Summary: Google (GOOGL) will pay US$ 920 million per month to SpaceX from October 2026 through 2029, securing access to AI computing power on satellites – a deal that could be a game-changer for the cloud.

I Would Buy – Google is moving aggressively to avoid falling behind in the AI race, and this strengthens the ecosystem.

  • Assets: GOOGL, MSFT, AMZN, QQQ (Nasdaq ETF)

5. Waterway Concession in Brazil Unlocks Logistics

Summary: The Brazilian government is advancing a waterway concession project, promising to reduce grain and ore shipping costs, while also improving passenger transport in isolated regions.

I Would Buy – For those who like a long-term infrastructure thesis, logistics and port companies stand to benefit.

  • Assets: LOGG3 (Log-in), CCRO3, RANI3, AGRO3 (grain sector)

6. Worldcoin (WLD) Rises 13% and SUI Surges 12% – Cryptocurrencies React to Macro Chaos

Summary: Worldcoin and Sui saw significant gains amid the general panic, driven by the announcement of a US$ 150 million fund for DeFi in SUI's case, and technical buying in WLD.

I Would Hold – Crypto is too volatile right now; better to wait for the geopolitical landscape to clear before increasing exposure.

  • Assets: WLD, SUI, BTC, ETH

Immediate Opportunities

  • Oil and Defense: Buy PETR4 on the dip and gold (GLD11) as a hedge.
  • AI and Semiconductors: NVDA and SMH in the US$ 120-125 range.
  • Brazil Infrastructure: LOGG3 and CCRO3 for waterway exposure.
  • Dollar: Protect your portfolio with DOL11 or long USD positions.

Risks on the Radar

  • Iran-Israel Escalation: If Hormuz closes, oil could spike to US$ 110+ and drag down global markets.
  • Tech Correction: Taiwan pulled down semiconductors; if NVDA loses US$ 110, it could drag the Nasdaq down.
  • Fragile Crypto: If BTC loses US$ 55k, SUI and WLD could drop 30% in one go.
