Wall Street Breakfast – 09/14/2026

Good morning, everyone. Take a seat, grab your coffee (diesel's expensive, so maybe it's time to rethink that truck) and let's comb through what really matters today. The menu is heavy: Middle East geopolitics, billion-dollar AI, DeFi hitting records, and the old auto industry melting down. Let's dive in.

1. The Strait Caught Fire – Oil and Diesel on the Radar

The fact: Drone attacks brought down the last Saudi pipeline that bypassed the Strait of Hormuz, and the Houthis seized Perim Island, effectively controlling Bab el-Mandeb — two chokepoints through which much of the world's oil and gas flows.

The effect: I'd Buy exposure to energy and logistics. This isn't noise, it's a supply shock with escalation risk. Diesel at $6 a gallon is already a reality in part of the market and inflation could come back with a vengeance.

Assets/sectors: XLE (energy ETF), XOM (Exxon), CVX (Chevron), BP and oil tanker operators like FRO.

2. Anthropic + Nvidia: A $2 Trillion IPO?

The fact: Anthropic is reportedly in talks with Nvidia as an anchor investor for an IPO that could be worth an astonishing $2 trillion, which would be the largest in history.

The effect: I'd Hold a position in Nvidia and buy the IPO if the valuation comes in reasonable. But be careful: $2 trillion is a perfection price. Any stumble on revenue turns into a bloodbath.

Assets/sectors: NVDA, AMD, MSFT (OpenAI's partner), GOOGL (direct competitor via Gemini) and the semiconductor sector as a whole.

3. Taiwan Explodes: Exports +41% in August

The fact: Taiwanese exports hit a record $82.4 billion in August, with electronic components up 58% and IT/telecom products up 42% — all driven by insatiable AI demand.

The effect: I'd Buy the pullback. A correction in Taiwan is a gift for anyone who understands that the AI supply chain is still in the first third of its cycle.

Assets/sectors: TSM (TSMC), EWT (Taiwan ETF), AVGO, ASML.

4. SpaceX Goes All In on the Nasdaq 100

The fact: After the rebalancing, SpaceX will gain significant weight in the Nasdaq 100, which should generate billions in mandatory buying from passive funds.

The effect: I'd Buy before the effective rebalancing. Passive flow is dumb and predictable money — and that historically creates a short-term rally.

Assets/sectors: QQQ, SpaceX (if accessible via private vehicles), ARKX (space exploration ETF), suppliers like RKLB.

5. Traditional Automakers Running on Empty

The fact: A hard-hitting analysis shows that legacy automakers are rapidly losing relevance to Chinese EVs and Tesla, with squeezed margins and a poorly executed transition.

The effect: I'd Sell traditional Western automakers and stick only with the clear winners of the transition. Their cost of capital will rise and market share will keep bleeding.

Assets/sectors: F (Ford), GM, STLA (Stellantis) — sell. BYD and TSLA — hold/selective buy.

6. Uniswap Dominates: $70B in Monthly Volume

The fact: Uniswap processed over $70 billion in monthly volume, surpassing the next three DEXs combined — a sign of brutal consolidation in DeFi.

The effect: I'd Buy UNI tactically. The network effect and liquidity dominance create a competitive moat that few protocols can break through.

Assets/sectors: UNI, ETH (base blockchain), AAVE, competing DEX tokens like CRV and SUSHI (with caution).

Immediate Opportunities
  • Energy and tankers while the geopolitical premium isn't fully priced in (XLE, FRO, XOM).
  • Taiwan/semiconductors on the pullback — real demand is accelerating, not decelerating (TSM, EWT).
  • SpaceX via passive flow ahead of the Nasdaq 100 rebalancing.
  • UNI as a tactical bet on DeFi consolidation.
  • Quantum computing — global investment rose 500%, worth tracking thematic ETFs and names like IBM and IONQ.
Risks on the Radar
  • Escalation in the Middle East could push Brent above $120 and reignite global inflation.
  • Anthropic's valuation at $2 trillion is a euphoria price — a correction could contaminate the entire AI sector.
  • Traditional automakers could drag down corporate credit and jobs in the auto supply chain.
  • Crypto regulation is still a sword hanging over DeFi, even with Uniswap dominating.
